Domestic Violence
Domestic Abuse is a pattern of abusive behavior used to control one's partner. Abusive behavior usually increases in frequency and severity over time. An act of Domestic Violence occurs every 9 seconds in the U.S.

Abusive behaviors include:

  • Pushing, shoving, slapping, hitting, kicking, choking, throwing objects to injure
  • Put-downs, name-calling, accusations, mind-games
  • Destroying property, threatening dependent children
  • Threatening suicide, unreasonable threats to report child neglect to authorities
  • Controlling all the money, not allowing enough money for family or personal expenses, preventing one from getting a job
  • Forcing sex against one's will, physically attacking the sexual parts of one's body, constantly making accusations of infidelity

About 50% of women in the United States have experienced violence in an intimate relationship.
