Information and the Definition of Child Abuse

Child Sexual abuse is the misuse of power by a bigger or stronger person over a smaller or more vulnerable person through the use of force or tricked, sexualized touch, language, or behavior. Child Sexual abuse includes but is not limited to:

  • Touched in sexual areas
  • Shown sexual movies
  • Forced to listen to sexual talk
  • Made to pose for seductive or sexual photography
  • Forced to perform oral sex
  • Bathed in a way that felt intrusive
  • Fondled, kissed, or held in a way that made the child uncomfortable
  • Made to watch sex acts or look at sexual parts
  • Child was told all he/she was good for is sex
  • Child was encouraged or goaded into unwanted sex
  • Raped or otherwise penetrated
  • Involve prostitution or pornography
  • No privacy allowed for bathing or dressing

Child's Definition

An appropriate definition of sexual abuse for a child may be:
"When someone tries to touch or look at the private parts of your body without your permission or tries to show you or have you touch the private parts of their body. (The private parts of the body are parts that are covered up by a bathing suit)."
