Own Residence
There are many things that a woman can do to increase
her safety in her own residence. It may be impossible
to do everything at once, but safety measure can be
added step by step.
1. I can change the locks on my doors and windows
as soon as possible.
2. I can replace wooden doors with steel/metal doors
3. I can install security systems including additional
locks, window bars, poles to wedge against doors,
an electronic alarm/lighting systems, etc.
4. I can purchase rope ladders to be used for escape
from second floor windows.
5. I can install smoke detectors and purchase fire
extinguishers for each floor in my house/apartment.
6. I can install an outside lighting system that
lights up when a person is coming close to my house
7. I will teach my children how to use the telephone
to make a collect call to me and/or to _________________________________
(friend/minister/other) in the event that my partner
takes the children.
8. I will tell my child/ren's caretakers which people
have permission to have personal contact with them,
including transporting them, and that my partner is
NOT permitted to do so. The people I will inform will
include:
___________________________________ (School)
_____________________________________________ (Day
Care Staff)
_____________________________________________ (Babysitter)
_____________________________________________ (Sunday
School teacher)
_____________________________________________ (Teacher/Coach)
_____________________________________________ (Other)
I can inform:

_____________________________________________ (Pastor),
and,
_____________________________________________ (Friends)
that my partner no longer resides with me and they
should call the police if he is observed near me and/or
my child/ren.
