Sexual Assault
NO ONE DESERVES TO BE A VICTIM OF ABUSE
No one is immune from sexual assault. Victims may be young or old; female or male; in a relationship or not; urban or rural; of any race, ethnicity, and/or culture; heterosexual, gay, lesbian, or bisexual.

Sexual Assault can be a humiliating, terrifying, and brutal crime; an act which violates a person's innermost physical and psychological being. Sexual assault occurs whenever a person is forced to submit to another person against her or his will.

Sexual Assault includes:

  • Sexual assault by acquaintances, friends, partners, and strangers
  • Child sexual assault and incest
  • Marital/partner rape
  • Sexual harassment
  • Same sex assault of both men and women
  • Sexual exploitation by counselors, therapists, helping professionals, and others in positions of power over the victim/survivor

It is estimated that 1 in every 3 women and 1 in every 7 men will be sexually assaulted before the age of 18.
